Kanye West ‘False Idol’ Crucifixion Sculpture In Hollywood Is Creepy AF

Hollywood will always be “Hollyweird.” If you need proof of that, all you’d have to do is walk down the street in la-la land for under 10 seconds. If that’s still not enough for you, this obscure and kind of awesome Kanye West sculpture should do the trick. A street artist who calls himself Plastic Jesus has composed a life-size gold sculpture of the 39-year-old rapper recreating the crucifixion of Jesus. On February 22, the Los Angeles-based artist erected the sculpture called “False Idol” at Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Avenue in West Hollywood.

The sculpture features nails in each of Kanye’s hands. Also included are a pair of Yeezys from West’s popular collaboration with Adidas. Street artist Plastic Jesus spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about what inspired him to create the sculpture, saying, He’s a genius at writing and producing but he’s not a God, and that’s where we put him. Until there’s an issue in his life or a hiccup in his career, then we crucify him. He’s making a great point. After all, Kanye West was the first person to refer to himself as a so-called “God.” I’m surprised it took this long for the “False Idol” sculpture to come about!

The artist added, ''We’ve seen it before with people like Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan. The same people who put him into a God-like place are the same yapping at his heels for a piece of flesh when something happens. Plastic Jesus goes on to express he is a longtime loyal fan, supporter and “admirer” of Kanye. Aren’t we all?! Well, I guess some of us are. But those who constantly crucify him?

The photojournalist-turned-artist went on to say, ''The piece is intended to be as critical of us as consumers and the media as it is of Kanye himself. We’ve created this idol from somebody who is clearly talented. When asked how much money he spent creating the piece, Plastic Jesus said he wasn’t sure. The process wasn’t particularly short. The street artist teamed up with a Las Vegas-based artist named Ginger. Ginger is the same artist who composed those life-size sculptures of President Donald Trump. Back in August, Ginger’s Trump sculptures popped up around the country in cities like Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.

Arsenal’s Wenger concerned by Chinese spending power

Arsene Wenger fears the huge wages being offered by big-spending Chinese clubs could cause problems when the Premier League teams look to negotiate new contracts with their star players.  Wenger is currently locked in talks with Arsenal duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez as the pair reportedly seek parity with the best-paid players in the Premier League. The Arsenal manager is hoping for successful resolutions to those contract stand-offs, but he believes the money on offer in the China Super League may persuade the Premier League’s star names to ask for even bigger pay packets to stay in England. Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been linked with a move to China, with an offer of £600,000-per-week ($739,000) reportedly on the table for the Spain international. Two of his former Chelsea team-mates, Oscar and John Obi Mikel, have already moved to Super League outfits, while former Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez became the highest-earning player in the world when h...

Record signing, Oscar lands in Shanghai to join SIPG

Brazilian midfielder Oscar landed in Shanghai on Monday where the 25-year-old was set to smash the Asian transfer record with a reported 60 million euros ($63 million) deal with Shanghai SIPG. Dozens of supporters chanting club songs swarmed the former Chelsea player at the city’s Pudong airport. Oscar’s arrival in the Chinese Super League comes ahead of that of Argentina’s former Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez, who signed for Shanghai Shenhua in another big-money deal last week.  Tevez’s transfer fee was 10.5 million euros, according to the website transfermarkt.com, which tracks dealings in the sport, though the reported two-year contract of 38 million euros per season ($40 million) makes him the world’s highest salaried footballer. SIPG’s general manager on Monday dismissed concerns raised by state media of a market bubble in the super-rich Chinese league, arguing prices have to be higher to attract players away from big European leagues. “The leagu...
