A big shame on Katsina State by Abdulkadir Safana

Enough is enough! How can we be allowing such things to happen in our country? One of the largest bodies of water in Nigeria with huge domestic and irrigation potential is lying waste while we throw money at it without seeing any development. The construction of Zobe Dam in Dutsinma, Katsina state was begun in 1972, but up till today there is not much to show for it. Billions of naira have been spent on contractors to complete this project which was intended to deliver 65,000 cubic meters of potable water to the Katsina metropolis daily. The dam is a federal urban water project. It was planned to be completed in 1995 but it was abandoned soon after its commissioning in 1983 by the second republic Shehu Shagari administration. There were many complaints by farmers, demanding release of water from the dam. In 2003 former president Obasanjo provided N13 billion naira for the completion of the project. PDP willing to visit Buhari, also Praying Fervently for his Safe return to Nigeria - BOT

Senator Walid Jubril, the Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BOT), has said the party was willing to visit and sympathise with President Muhammadu Buhari in London. But the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) says PDP leaders are being “unnecessary overzealous” and urged them to allow the president enjoy his leave as he prepares to return soon. Jubril, who denied that the party promoted the rumored death of the president, said that the PDP was rather praying fervently for Buhari’s safe return to Nigeria. “Let him be well and come back and continue with his leadership of Nigeria. “If we are to be given the opportunity, the PDP leaders will even go to London to wish him well and sympathize with his family,” he said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna. I didn’t reject UK offer to rescue Chibok girls – Jonathan

The office of the former President Goodluck Jonathan has refuted claims that the last administration rejected an offer made by British forces to rescue the kidnapped Chibok school girls. Report by guardian.com claims the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom, on a mission named Operation Turus, conduct air recce over northern Nigeria for several months after the girls were taken in April 2014. “The girls were located in the first few weeks of the RAF mission,” a source involved in Operation Turus told the Observer. “We offered to rescue them, but the Nigerian government declined.” A statement by Jonathan’s media adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, said the lies in this report are self-evident, noting that Nigerians are conversant with the effort made by the Jonathan administration to rescue the girls. Buhari phones Obasanjo from UK, salutes him at 80

President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated with former President Olusegun Obasanjo on his 80th birthday. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, made this known in a statement last night. Adesina said in a phone call from London, where he is convalescing, Buhari told the former military ruler (1976 to 1979) and democratically elected president (1999 to 2007) that “a time like this provides opportunity to reflect on Obasanjo’s invaluable roles and contributions to the unity and cohesion of Nigeria, the brotherhood of all Africans, as well as peace and amity over the globe.” The presidential spokesman quoted Buhari as describing the former president as “a true citizen of the world.” He said Buhari recalled their days in the military thus: “Those of us who served under you in various capacities recall a man with boundless energy, with razor sharp mind, and one who does not suffer fools gladly.
