Mohammed Kiggundu was shot dead, together with his bodyguard as he was heading to Pearl FM, a local radio station in the city center for a talk show. General TY Danjuma Flown Out Of Nigeria After Falling Sick

One of Nigeria’s richest retired military generals, Theophilus Danjuma, was flown out of Nigeria last week in an air ambulance, according to a report. It was learnt that the retired military officer, who has served in various capacities in government and also in the oil industry, fell seriously ill and had to be flown out on an air ambulance. Kwara State Government shuts down 132 illegal schools.

The Kwara Government said on Thursday that it had closed 132 illegal private schools operating in the state. Zainab Bello, the Director of Quality Assurance in the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, said apart from being illegal, the schools were operating in unhygienic environment. Ms. Bello, who spoke on behalf of Musa Yeketi, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, while closing 19 other private schools, said government had begun verification of tertiary institutions in the state. She said that the objective of the exercise was to fish out those violating the laws that established them. Ms. Bello said that the government had previously shut down schools which were either built with wooden planks or operating without due authorisation from the state government. ASUU ends Warning Strike, Orders lecturers back to class

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Tuesday confirmed that it had ended its one week nationwide warning strike over the non-implementation of a 2009 agreement with the Federal Government. The President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, who said this in Abuja, urged lecturers to return to work. “We are making progress, especially with the intervention of the Senate. In the next one or two meetings, if we are able to get a clear path to the matter, we will avoid elongation of the strike action. “I have been receiving these reports that ASUU says strike continues. No. The strike ends today (Tuesday).
