The Islamic Movement of Nigeria
otherwise known as Shiite is planning to hold a joint African general meeting
soon, Punch reports.
This was confirmed by Sokoto State Commissioner of
Police, Muhammad Abdulkadir, who said that “intelligence reaching the command
indicates that a religious sect (Shiites) is planning to organise a Joint
African General Meeting in an undisclosed location in Sokoto metropolis.”
He said, “Members of the public who are already aware are
apprehensive of the potential danger this meeting, if allowed to hold, will
pose.”
The CP said the command had advised the leaders of the
sect against any act that might cause the breach of peace in the state.
Abdulkadir, however, stated that in collaboration with
other security agencies, the command would commence stop-and-search operations
at various locations in the state.
He called on the general public to cooperate with the stop-and-search
teams in order to succeed in the duty of preventing the breach of peace.
Recall that the Sokoto State government recently push for
a national ban to be placed on the sect.
