NIGERIAN Union of Local Government Employees,
NULGE, has commended Katsina state government for prompt payment of salaries to
local government workers. In a statement signed by state president of NULGE,
Comrade Aliyu Haruna Kankara, the union expressed satisfaction with government
for meeting workers expectation despite current economic challenge.
It noted that prompt payment of salaries by
the government had ensured smooth running of government activities at local
government level. The statement said the commendation was necessary in view of
the fact that some state governments have failed to ensure payment of salaries
for several months to local government workers. It called on the Katsina state
government to maintain the tempo and appealed to local government workers to
reciprocate the gesture.
“While some state governors have failed to
meet to expectation of their local governments workers, we wish to commend
Katsina state government for ensuring prompt payment to its workers despite
current economic recession.”
The statement said the union would continue
to cooperate with the state government in its current effort to reorganise
local government councils. It however appealed to state government to expedite
action in reinstating genuine local government staff cleared by complaints
committee set up months ago by the state government.
